Something doesn't look right — a suspicious call, a pop-up warning, a bank alert. When scams target older adults, fast, calm, structured response makes the difference. I've been doing this for over a decade.

Common Threats
Families searching "scam help for seniors near me" often describe one of these scenarios. Each one has a structured response — even after initial contact.
Callers claim back taxes, Medicare fraud, or Social Security suspension. Urgency is the weapon — calm review is the antidote.
A voice that sounds exactly like a grandchild asks for emergency money. AI now makes this indistinguishable from the real thing.
Pop-ups or emails claim your account is locked or compromised. Most are fake — but they require careful review to confirm.
Emails or texts appear to be from Chase, Wells Fargo, or your credit union asking you to verify credentials or transfer funds.
"Your computer is infected — call this number immediately." These are almost always fake, but clicking them can create real problems.
Any request for payment via gift cards, Zelle, or wire transfer is a red flag — no legitimate business or agency asks this way.
Immediate Action
If a parent or family member has already interacted with something suspicious — clicked a link, called a number, or given out information — take these steps before reaching out.
Don't respond to calls, texts, or emails from the suspicious source. Don't call numbers shown in pop-ups or warnings — those connect to the scammer.
Some scams ask for "remote access software." If that's already installed, leave it alone — uninstalling incorrectly can destroy evidence needed for account recovery.
Banks, Apple, and government agencies never ask for one-time codes over the phone. If you've already shared one, note the time and service — this helps in recovery.
A 90-minute priority session is typically enough to evaluate exposure, secure accounts, and restore stability. Remote sessions are available the same day in most cases.
About Greg Whalen
I started this practice over ten years ago because older adults deserve the same calm, expert technology support that everyone else gets — without being rushed, condescended to, or upsold. Scam recovery is one of the most important things I do.
My background includes years at Apple, IDEO, and Splunk in San Francisco. I bring that level of technical rigor into the living rooms and kitchens of Monmouth County families who need it most.
Privacy & Security
Scam recovery involves sensitive account access and password handling. Families vetting an advisor deserve to know exactly how that's managed.
No passwords stored externally. No monitoring software installed. No account access without explicit consent. Everything done in the open, with a clear record of what was touched and why. Read the full standard →
